There are many things, which the customer needs to keep in mind before buying an RC helicopter. The purchase largely depends on which type of RC helicopter you want as there are many kinds in the market. But before purchasing, do consider the following –
Number of Channels
As you may know already, the RC helicopters get the radio signals from controllers and then make it into various movements. But each action needs a transmission channel, and that is why a good RC helicopter will have more channels.
Fewer channels are easy for a beginner. A basic one will have two channels. While one controls the yaw, speed is controlled by the other one. Such type of a helicopter can fly forward only, which restricts their movement, but nonetheless is much less complicated to use. There is also the three-channel helicopter, which has reverse movements too. These can do many movements. The user can tilt the blades, and the helicopter thus will do moves such as climbing, swooping, looping, rolling, flying, etc.
RC helicopters controlled by the radio need power source in order to work. Most common are electric batteries and glow fuel, but some use turbine engines and gasoline. The most common are glow fuel helicopters. There is no height limit for such helicopter. Batteries are safe and convenient to use. Batteries at first could not equal the power given by glow fuel. However, the advancement of science made it possible for lithium polymer batteries give more than 12 minutes of fight time. Batteries cost you less and plus, contrary to the fuel powered motors, batteries create much lesser noise. This is a great choice for people, who use their helicopters in their residential colonies or take videos along with the sound.
Add-ons and accessories
Few RC helicopters come with some accessories already built in or additionally added on later. Most of the people fly this helicopter only for the purpose of pleasing and improve their skills of controlling. But also there are others, who learn how to operate it for other purposes. Few photographers may want to invest in these so that they can click aerial photos without having to invest in renting an actual helicopter. For this use, the RC camera is perfect. You can also find wireless cameras for the same purpose, but these are more suited for their use in surveillance as these will not take very good quality pictures.
So buy accordingly!
